Kosshi 1.21 Beta

Kosshi 1.21 Beta

#62Beta

Kosshi 1.21 beta is now available on TestFlight.

  • Added Trash, which keeps deleted rows for 30 days
  • Added Workspaces to save and switch screen layouts
  • Search now finds text inside images
  • Internal links now show a preview on hover
  • Dates written as YYYY-MM-DD are now recognized in text
  • Bookmarks and saved searches can now be reordered by dragging

I'd especially appreciate feedback on Trash and Workspaces. Please let me know if you find any issues or anything confusing.

Release notes:
https://kosshi.app/releases/1.21.0

So far everything is working nicely on the Mac ... but have not tested Workspaces or Trash. My question: Where is the trash? Without it visible in some way how do I know it's keeping deleted content for 30 days?

Thank you for trying it.

In the app, the Trash is called Recently Deleted. You can open it from the … menu at the top right. Deleted rows appear there, and you can restore them.

Hi Junichi,

I've just started testing beta 1.21, and I'll comment on the other changes later. For now, I wanted to give you some feedback on Sort Children.

Since I imported my calendar node from WorkFlowy, that's where I started testing the feature. My calendar hierarchy in Kosshi Outliner is Calendar>Year (YYYY) > Month (MM) > Day (DD).

I found that Sort Children works as expected when my cursor is on a month—it sorts the days within that month. However, when I place the cursor on a year and try to sort the entire year, nothing happens. It looks like Sort Children may not currently work at that level of the hierarchy. Perhaps what is happening is that the month nodes are already sorted. and that’s why it appears that nothing is happening. I guess what I was expecting was that if I have the cursor focussed on the year that it would sort the children and the sub-children nodes. all at once, however, it appears that it’s only sorting the one level at a time. Here is a screenshot of my calendar node:

Hi Junichi,

I’ve been testing the Workspaces feature and wanted to share some feedback.

What works well:

  • The addition of Workspaces is brilliant! This is an amazing feature.
  • Switching between Workspaces works very well.

What I’d like to see added/improved:

  • Prompt for a workspace name when creating it:

It would be nice to be prompted to name a workspace immediately after clicking “Save Workspace,” rather than having to rename the default name (e.g., “Workspace 1”) afterward.

  • Save the collapsed/expanded state with the workspace:

It appears that a node’s collapsed/expanded state isn’t saved with the workspace. For example, I saved a workspace with two panes and a node collapsed (Workspace A), then expanded the node and saved a new workspace (Workspace B). However, switching between A and B doesn’t change the node’s collapsed/expanded state.

  • Make workspace management more intuitive:

It took me a while to figure out that I needed to click the current workspace name and then right-click on a workspace name to rename it, delete it, duplicate it, or move it up or down. I don’t have a specific suggestion for improving this yet, and it’s not a big issue. Now that I know how it works, I’m perfectly happy with it. Just something I thought I’d mention.

Hi Junichi,

The trash feature (recently deleted) feature works very well and is intuitive.

At this point I can't think of any suggestions to improve it.

Well done, and thank you!

Hi Junichi,

The following feedback is not specific to the 1.2.1 beta, but is something that I've been meaning to ask you about.

I noticed what may be a row-selection issue in the iOS version.

When I want to select a row to perform row actions, I can only select it successfully by tapping in the empty space beside the text. If I tap and hold directly on a word in the row, the row isn’t selected.

Expected behavior: Tapping and holding anywhere within the row should select the row.

Is this intentional, or could this be a bug?

Thanks,

Bob

Hi Bob,

Thanks as always for the detailed feedback. It really helps. I'm glad date recognition and Recently Deleted are working well for you.

About Sort Children, you're right that it currently sorts only one level at a time. With the cursor on a year, it sorts the months, but not the days inside each month. If the months are already in order, nothing appears to happen. Sorry, I should make this clearer.

I plan to add a way to sort selected rows and make the ascending and descending options easier to find. I'll also look into an option to sort all descendants at once.

For Workspaces, you are right about being able to name a workspace when creating it and making the management options easier to find. I may have kept the interface a little too minimal. I'd like to revisit that.

I can also see why saving the expanded and collapsed state for each workspace would be useful. At the moment, each row's state is shared across workspaces and devices, so switching workspaces doesn't restore the state from when the workspace was saved.

On iOS, this is intentional at the moment. A long press in the empty space selects rows. A long press on the text brings up the magnifier so you can position the cursor.

But I can see how this makes row selection hard to discover. Selection could be better on macOS too. I'd like to see if I can improve this in the next version.

Thanks again.

Hi Junichi,

Thanks for your reply, for the clarification, and for being open to suggestions. Kosshi Outliner is already great software in its current form, and I really appreciate your desire to make it even better.

Thanks again,

Bob

1.21.0 (213) is now available on TestFlight.

  • Added ascending and descending sorting for selected rows, and an option to sort all descendants
  • Added a name field when saving a Workspace and a button to access Workspace management
  • Fixed numbering when joining or splitting lists, and when pressing Return in the middle of an item
  • Improved the alignment and visibility of search highlights in images

Thanks for testing and for the detailed reports.

Hi Junichi,

All of the changes that you've made with regards to sorting, workspaces, alignment, and visibility of search highlights in images work very well. Thank you!

I'm assuming that you haven't implemented saving the expand/collapse state in workspaces because I tested it in this latest beta and it doesn't seem to be functional yet.

Pressing return in the middle of an item works well too.

I am not sure what you meant by "Fixed numbering when joining or splitting lists" As far as I can tell, there is no automatic numbering option available yet.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for checking. I’m glad the changes are working well.

Sorry I wasn’t clear about the expanded and collapsed state in Workspaces. With the current design, keeping a separate state for each window would make things quite complicated, so it’s difficult to support at the moment.

By the numbering fix when joining or splitting lists, I meant the issue reported and fixed in this topic.

Thanks again.

Hi Bob,

There’s no button for numbered lists yet. Just type “1.” and a space at the beginning of a row, then write your first item. Press Enter to continue with “2.”

A menu option for this might make it easier to find.
