Headings (beta feature): You can also enable Headings in Settings > Beta. For details, please see the guide:
https://kosshi.app/guide/heading

I would appreciate your feedback on the changes in this release. I would also appreciate any thoughts or impressions on Headings.

These new features seem great! I look forward to testing them out whenever the beta is released in TestFlight

Hi mitchellm, the beta is already available, but it looks like your previous invitation had expired, so I've sent you a new one. Thank you for your help with testing.

Also, the beta is a separate app from the regular Kosshi app, and its data and link URL scheme are separate too. Row links should no longer open the wrong app when both are installed.

As a reminder, if you'd like to try the TestFlight beta, just reply here or contact me, and I'll send you an invitation. More details: https://forum.kosshi.app/t/41

The Dates section in the sidebar appears only when a row has a date tag, such as @due(10/10) or @due(2026-10-10). I also added this to the release notes.

I just went over the 1.20 preview and found no problems. (Of course, I might have missed a situation that others discover.) These new features are very nice!

I'm not quite sure how I'll use it in the end, but the ability to use markdown headers is very elegant and I'm sure will be quite useful to me.

Being able to "fold up" searches, tags, etc. will be very good for keeping a clean interface. Thanks! Adding counts is also very nice.

Very well done! I'll let you know if I catch any quirks or problems in the future but not seeing any so far.

Hi Junichi,

I really like the addition of the dates panel! Personally, I use a hyphen as a date separator rather than a forward slash. e.g. 2026-09-15 which seems to work in Kosshi Outliner. May I suggest that the documentation regarding date format updated to include the hyphen date element separator format as well?

Thanks for taking the time to look through everything so carefully. I'm very happy to hear that you're enjoying it.

I arrived at the Headings design while thinking about how to make it easier to turn an outline into a full piece of writing. I'm glad it's getting a positive response so far.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the feedback, and for checking the Dates panel. You're right, the documentation is still out of date, so I'll update it. Thanks for pointing that out.

Hi Junichi,

Here is some more feedback on beta version 1.2.0.

The re-designed search functions are great and intuitive. I especially like the filter menu with common conditions in the Search field. Thank you!

The "Backlinks: Find Referencing Rows" feature works really well and is extremely helpful.

The formatting bar below the outline is well positioned for easy access.

Regarding adding a heading to an outline, I can get this to work using the hotkey but cannot see the "Writing Heading" in the row menu. The method that I used to try and use the Writing Heading" in the row menu is to click on the row that I want to add the heading to, and then "right-click" . Your help solving this would be appreciated.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the detailed feedback. I’m glad the redesigned search, Backlinks, and formatting bar are working well.

As the Row Actions menu grew, it became harder to navigate, so I simplified it in the 1.20 beta while keeping commonly used actions easy to access.

"Writing Heading" is treated as a formatting option, so it is now in the formatting bar below the outline. The easiest way to add a heading is to type # at the beginning of a row.

Thanks again!

Hi Junichi,

Thanks for your reply. I imagine you're aware of this already, but just in case, the documentation regarding row headings https://kosshi.app/guide/heading will need a slight adjustment before the 1.2.0 post-beta version is released as it currently states that "You can also choose Writing Heading from the row menu"

Hi Bob,

Thanks for pointing this out. This guide was written before the row menu was reorganized, so it wasn’t updated to reflect the later changes.

Hi Junichi,

First of all, I want to say how impressed I am with Kosshi Outliner. The more I use it, the more I appreciate the incredible amount of thought, care, and hard work you’ve put into creating it. In my opinion, it’s the best outliner app available across the Mac, iPhone, and iPad ecosystem!

I’ve been experimenting with pasting Markdown-formatted content from a WorkFlowy Markdown export into Kosshi Outliner 1.2.0. I have two things I’d like your thoughts on: first, some feedback about the pasting behavior, and second, a question about how I might complete the calendar conversion.

1. Pasting issue

It appears that when Kosshi Outliner 1.2.0 encounters a code block somewhere within the data being pasted, the content after that point does not paste correctly.

For context, my WorkFlowy Calendar node is organized hierarchically as:

Year → Month → Day → Tasks/Notes

Each year contains sub-bullets for the months, each month contains sub-bullets for the days, and each day contains bullets for individual tasks or notes.

I’m wondering whether the presence of a code block somewhere within this hierarchy is causing the pasting problem, and whether Kosshi Outliner could be updated to handle this type of content more reliably.

Does this explanation provide enough information for you to determine what might be causing the problem or how it could be addressed?

2. Assigning dates to the calendar entries

There is one additional step I need to complete the conversion of my WorkFlowy calendar to Kosshi Outliner: assigning the appropriate date to each bullet under a particular day.

Since the WorkFlowy calendar already uses the Year → Month → Day → Tasks/Notes hierarchy, I’m wondering whether there might be a way to automate this in Kosshi Outliner.

For example, could the Search and Replace function be used to assign the appropriate date to all of the tasks/notes under a particular day? Or is there another method you can think of that might accomplish this more efficiently?

I’d appreciate any suggestions you have.

Thanks!

Bob

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the kind words, detailed feedback, and questions. I’m glad to hear that Kosshi has been useful.

1. Pasting issue

I tried it myself, and the issue does seem to occur when a code block is included. I think it should be fixable, so I’ll look into it.

2. Assigning dates to calendar entries

In Kosshi 1.20, a date must be inside a tag to appear in the Dates sidebar, such as @due(2026-09-21) or @scheduled(2026-09-22).

For this example, adding an @calendar(2026-09-21) tag at the end of the parent node’s text or in its note seems closest to how Kosshi is currently intended to be used.

2026-09-21 @calendar(2026-09-21)
    Notes
        aaa
        bbb
    Tasks
        aaa
        bbb

The parent node will then appear in the Dates sidebar, where you can expand it to view the child hierarchy. Is this what you had in mind?

However, this means you have to write the same date twice, so it may not be very convenient.

To be honest, I was also unsure about this when I added the Dates feature. I considered either recognizing a plain-text date such as 2026-09-21 directly or introducing a lightweight date-specific notation such as @2026-09-21 or !2026-09-21, but I’m still thinking it over.

Thank you again for the detailed feedback and questions.

App Store reviews have been quick lately, but this one is taking quite a while. The official 1.20 release will be out once it’s approved.

Hi Junichi,

Thanks for your reply and for all the helpful information.

As for assigning dates to calendar entries, I think your suggestion could work quite well for me. I also really like your idea of potentially recognizing plain-text dates or using some kind of lightweight date-specific notation.

I especially like the idea of having Kosshi Outliner recognize dates written in a format like "2026-09-21". That would save me a lot of work because I wouldn’t have to convert all of my existing calendar entries from WorkFlowy.

Many thanks,

Bob

Hi Bob,

I’m glad this could be useful. I’ve implemented a version of plain-text date recognition before, so I’ll look into bringing it back as an optional feature, starting with ISO-style dates such as 2026-09-21.

Thank you again for the helpful suggestion.

Hi Junichi,

If Kosshi Outliner could recognize ISO-style dates such as 2026-09-21, that would be ideal!

Thanks again,

Bob

1.20 has been waiting for Apple’s review for over a week. A few issues have been reported, and I have fixes ready. I don’t know how long a new review would take, so I plan to release 1.20 as it is.

Development of 1.21 is going well. The 1.21 beta should be ready soon.

I’ve created a separate topic for Headings so that feedback about this feature is easier to find. Please use the Headings (Beta) topic for future feedback and discussion.
