Quick Capture / Capture action creates a separate Inbox per device, and iOS cannot be pointed to a shared Inbox

Quick Capture / Capture action creates a separate Inbox per device, and iOS cannot be pointed to a shared Inbox

#70Bug

Summary

In 1.21.0, Quick Capture on Mac and the Capture action in Shortcuts on iPhone and iPad each created their own top-level Inbox. I can point Mac to a shared Inbox in Settings, but iOS has no destination setting, so iPhone and iPad keep using (or creating) their own Inbox. As a result, I cannot get all three devices to write to one Inbox.

Environment

  • Kosshi 1.21.0 on Mac / iPhone / iPad
  • macOS [27] / iOS [27] / iPadOS [27]
  • iCloud sync: on

Steps to reproduce

  1. On iPhone, run a shortcut with a Capture action and a text input. An Inbox is created at the top level and the row is added to it.
  2. On Mac, open Settings > Integrations > Quick Capture, choose that Inbox as the Destination, and capture a row with the Quick Capture shortcut. The row goes into the same Inbox.
  3. On iPad, run the same Capture shortcut with a text input.

Expected: the row is added to the same Inbox.
Actual: iPad creates a second top-level Inbox and adds the row there. iOS has no setting to choose the destination.

Observations

  1. Three top-level "Inbox" rows existed, one per device. The same captured row appeared in two of them.
  2. I deleted them and ran Capture on iPad. A new Inbox appeared. I set it as the Destination on Mac. Mac and iPad then shared it.
  3. Capture on iPhone succeeded (it returned a row link), but the row was added under the original Inbox, which I had moved under Notes and renamed. [confirm]
  4. After I deleted that original row, the next Capture on iPhone created a new Inbox.
  5. After I deleted the Inbox used by Mac and iPad:

- Quick Capture on Mac created a new Inbox, even though the iPhone's Inbox already existed.
- Capture on iPad, the first time, added the row directly at the top level.
- Capture on iPad, the next time, created a new Inbox again.

  1. I set Mac's Destination to the Inbox that iPhone created. Mac and iPhone now share it. iPad still uses its own Inbox.

Expected behavior

All devices write to one shared Inbox, or iOS lets me choose the destination.

Request

  • Could the Quick Capture destination sync across devices?
  • Could iOS offer a destination setting for Quick Capture, or a destination parameter on the Capture action?
  • When the destination is missing, could Kosshi reuse an existing Inbox instead of creating a new one? Currently the behavior varies (new Inbox, or top level).

This may relate to #47.
