Move Up/Down keyboard shortcut not working

Move Up/Down keyboard shortcut not working

Bug

This refers to the Mac version of Kosshi. The keyboard shortcuts for moving up or moving down do not work when I initially open Kosshi. And they also don't work (it seems) after app has been open for awhile but I've not been active on it.

If I go to the menu and manually select move up (or move down) then afterwards the keyboard shortcuts work fine.

Using macOS Tahoe 26.5.2

@mitchellm
Thanks for the detailed report. I’m looking into this.

I tried reproducing this on my end (fresh launch, before clicking in the editor, default ⌘⇧↑↓) but haven't been able to reproduce it so far.

A few quick questions to narrow it down:

  • What version of Kosshi are you using?
  • Are you using the default shortcuts (⌘⇧↑↓) or custom ones?
  • When this happens, is it only Move Up/Down, or do other shortcuts fail at the same time (e.g., ⌘⇧D, ⌘↑)?
  • When this happens, does clicking in the outline (without using the menu) fix it?

Please excuse my stupidity. When I was testing this out it was about 4 a.m. in my timezone and I was completly "conscious". It looks like I interpreted the shortcut as command-control-up/down: arrow instead of command-shift-up/down: arrow. Thus I think I sent out a false alarm. If I notice a problem again then I'll add on to this discussion, but I think it was just user-error on my part.

No worries at all! If anything comes up again, feel free to post here.

Considering your first response to what you expected the keyboard command to be, might be a good idea to change the keyboard command to the ⌃⌘↑ and ⌃⌘↓.

That is what I did to my setup.

@macosxguru : Good suggestion. Very new to Kosshi and changed keyboard shortcuts per your suggestion ... wasn't aware of there the options for changing keyboard shortcuts in preferences!

@macosguru Thanks. Both of those articles are extremely helpful! While the database-all-outlines-in-one-place is strange at first, I find it works much better for me. If anything it works better when working on iOS and not having to (sometimes) search for the file I want to work on. This is much cleaner. I like this database approach a lot.

You write clearly and convincingly! P.S. I may send you an email sometime in the next month to ask about Blot.im. I am not retired and used to create "proper" fancy websites for my classes. Now I want something simpler and Blot seems like it might fit the bill.

Feel free to email me.

Glad you found the writing nice.

After reading this thread, I'm thinking of adding ⌃⌘↑↓ to the default key bindings for Move Up/Down.
Your custom bindings stay the same. Both ⌘⇧↑↓ and ⌃⌘↑↓ will work in the defaults.

@macosxguru Thanks for sharing those excellent articles.
